In 22 August 2025, UNO officially declared famine in Gaza. It has been alerting the world about the imminent danger of famine since March. There is a consensus among all countries that Israel is weaponising hunger. Sorrowfully, the world is just beholding starving children dying in the laps of their mothers. Even though they know that they can finish off this siege, they are just observing a live genocide and famine.

How did israel cause famine in Gaza?

In January 2025, Israel banned UNRWA, a civilian aid distribution authority in Gaza. In March 2025, the blockade of aid into Gaza started. For the first time, Israel replaced the aid distribution authority with its militarised GHF organisation. Israel abolished the effective UNO aid distribution system, which had 400 aid centres all over Gaza. In its place, GHF has only four aid centres, three of them in Khan Younis, which results in the displacement of Gazans again. These centres are monitored by IDF forces and Israel under strict scrutiny.

At GHF aid distribution centres, people are deliberately killed by IDF forces. Till now, 1300 people(just 729 in July) have been killed at altar grounds(referring to GHF sites). Israeli-backed gangs are also rampaging in these areas.(looting aid trucks) Gazans have to travel long distances to reach aid centres in Israeli-controlled areas. Despite facing constant fear of being killed, tired and starved Gazans wait for hours to get food. Unfortunately, most of them returned not even with a slice of bread.

Because these distribution centres are open for a few minutes. Israel has allowed minimal aid into Gaza for couple of times since the blockade. These centres provide some people with a few rations, dry food, and food devoid of nutrients. Even for such food, Gazans are risking their lives, which demonstrates the grave circumstances in Gaza.

Famine-related stats

According to the UNO scale, Gazans are facing acute famine and malnutrition. It is predicted that 640000 Gazans will be facing malnutrition in September. Innocent children and the elderly are the most affected victims of this catastrophe. Children need a balanced diet for development.

Due to the unavailability of food, children are facing malnutrition, which is life-threatening (nearly 132000). Half a million people have no loaf of bread to eat. Moreover, they don't have clean water to drink and no sanitation.

It has now become common in Gaza for families to sleep hungry. While aid in trucks is wasting at borders. Analysts warned that if it continues for a few more months, the whole Gaza population will starve due to the famine.
